My contribution to lettera27’s collection was to use the provided Moleskine notebook as I usually use my own notebooks. No artificial narratives were specially created, nothing especially conceived to be produced in the notebook. Instead, my contribution reflects the day to day workings of an artist: phone numbers, shopping and to do lists, reminders to email people, quick notes and sketches for potential projects, calculations, as well as slogans relating to my state of mind.

Cameron Platter

(Johannesburg, 1978) Lives and works in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

His work is a document of contemporary morality; using stories appropriated from the universal themes of sex, love, violence, beauty, advertising, food, battle scenes, pornography, writing, politics, redemption, religion, man’s badness and goodness, dancing, history, lust, greed, things falling apart, television and spaceships. Mixing traditional and new mediums, through drawing, video and sculpture, Platter creates a tapestry that is a homage to historical themes, and an ironical take on what it means to be alive today in contemporary South Africa.
