Notebook Concept

Seven rings made by iron wire and twisted together form a chain that prevents to open entirely the notebook, but allows to admire the pages inside. The interior has been strongly manipulated by the artist who has cutted vertically in half all the pages and has painted them in black and violent red flashes, making them inflexible and disturbing. In the last page is represented an african pregnant woman covered with the senegalese flag. On her womb is depicted the white dove as a peace symbol. The silhouette of her belly is replicated in white over all the pages. This notebook could be understood as an allegory: Senegal fecundated by the peace became a defender against violence and darkness, however peace can be achieved just getting free from the chains that entangle the mind.

(the concept’s text is by Raffaella Carillo)
